Our New Vision

The new vision for the Minnesota Humanities Center calls upon the organization to utilize the disciplines of the humanities to increase understanding, innovation, and justice.

The new vision for the Minnesota Humanities Center – A just society that is curious, connected, and compassionate.

Justice is afforded to people when they have an opportunity to tell their story on their terms at a meaningful time.

Curiosity lives within us when we come to conversations ready to listen with open hearts and minds and without judgment and preconceived answers.

Connection, reflecting upon the wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., happens when we see ourselves as people caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny understanding that whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

We become compassionate when we take our feelings of empathy and use them to constructively move us toward actively creating a more perfect union.

We heard from the people of Minnesota in each corner of the state during our statewide listening tour this fall that our new vision statement resonated with them.

As we move forward, we look forward to working with friends and the friends we have yet to meet, in utilizing the disciplines of the humanities to increase understanding, innovation, and justice in our world.

We are committed to realizing a just society that is curious, connected, and compassionate.
